Africa Power Tanzania
Women Entrepreneurs Powering Communities with Productive Use of Renewable Energy in Tanzania
Partners: Africa Power
Country: Tanzania
Technology: Next generation solar technologies and business models
Stage: Early
Stage: Round 10
Women and children are disproportionately impacted by energy poverty and can spend up to ten hours a week collecting fuel for energy use. Walking great distances for fuel too often puts women in vulnerable situations and cooking with these fuels endangers their health. This causes many young girls to leave school to collect fuel and prevents women from participating in other income-generating activities.
Africa Power develops, deploys and sells off-grid solar solutions for Africa and has developed a range of Productive-Use-of-Energy (PUE) products. Partnering with Solar Sister’s, this project uses Solar Sister’s last-mile distribution networks in Tanzania to trial Africa Power’s solar solution and drive access to appliances. The project takes a gender-inclusive approach as it promotes climate resilience and food security.
