Unlocking the Potential of Solar Heating in sub-Sahara Africa: Optimising Product Design and Establishing Local Manufacturing Capacity
Partners: Solariskit
Country: Rwanda
Technology: Next generation solar technologies and business models
Stage: Late
Stage: Round 10
SolarisKit has developed the world’s first flat-packed, self-assembled solar thermal collector. This device can convert sunlight into heat, reducing the need for traditional fuels like wood and charcoal that contribute to deforestation and carbon emissions in Africa. The solar collector can be easily assembled, transported, and manufactured locally, supporting local job creation and the solar thermal industry.
SolarisKit aims to advance the market adoption of the thermal solar collector in Africa, where there is abundant sunshine and potential for positive impact. The Energy Catalyst funded project will build solar collector manufacturing capacity in Rwanda and Ghana, establish a long-term partnership between UK-based SolarisKit and its Africa-based partners, to develop a sustainable and scalable business model. The project seeks to unlock the vast potential of solar energy in Africa and other sunbelt regions, to benef people and the planet.
