Solar2Wave Mid Stage: Demonstration of a Floating Solar Farm in Indonesian Ocean Waves
Partners: Achelous Energy
Country: Indonesia
Technology: Next generation solar technologies and business models
Stage: Mid
Stage: Round 10
Communities on Indonesia’s remote islands rely on expensive and polluting diesel power. This high cost dictates that the island residents have limited electricity. So much so that four million people in Indonesia still lack access to energy.
Floating photovoltaic (FPV) is an appealing and scalable solution to replace Indonesia’s current 86% power generation from fossil fuels. An FPV farm consists of small individual solar panels that can be placed along the coastal line of an island and connected to residents.
Solar2Wave will construct and operate Indonesia’s first FPV site in the ocean. The Solar2Wave innovation can ensure that FPV panels remain intact from incident ocean waves, making it a sustainable solution – especially in Indonesia, whose coastline stretches 157,000 km.
