Solar Steam - A novel application of Fresnel lenses as a solar thermal collector to benefit industry.
Stage: Round 4
The project aimed to develop an innovative containerized solar thermal system to supply steam for industrial and commercial users in India, addressing the lack of non-polluting steam production alternatives in heavily industrialized areas. The system utilizes Fresnel lenses to concentrate solar energy onto an evacuated tube absorber, generating steam for various applications. Despite cultural and timeline challenges during construction, the as-built system is undergoing testing. The technology has the potential to provide off-grid energy for heating, treating saline and wastewater, cooling, and irrigation in remote areas. It offers economic opportunities, job creation, and poverty alleviation, with a zero carbon footprint and applicability for disaster relief.
