Mobile Power

Mobile Power’s combined ‘battery-as-a-service’ and ‘vehicle-as-a-service’ business model pilot in rural Nigeria

Stage: Round 8

Transport in Nigeria relies on expensive, often poor-quality fuel with government subsidies. China and India’s electric vehicle advancements contrast Africa’s power distribution challenge, despite abundant renewable resources. Mobile Power introduces a clean, affordable energy distribution system via MOPO Hubs and smart battery rentals, targeting rural Nigeria. The project replaces household generators, powers electric vehicles, and integrates a biomass pilot. Tearfund Nigeria addresses gender disparities. Meanwhile, JCM Power and RINA pilot a utility-scale battery energy storage system in Malawi’s Golomoti project, aiming to enhance energy output, support national goals, and attract private investment with public funding. The initiative strives to prove BESS viability in Sub-Saharan Africa.
