VIDEO – Upya: Digitising and scaling distribution businesses

Upya is working to enable low-income customers in developing countries to access solar products, while also giving sellers confidence that their customers will pay. The company’s innovative client management software supported project partner GIVEWATTS to serve to low-income customers – giving access to solar products based on low initial deposits of just 10%. Of the 103 solar home systems sold so far, 41 were purchased this way, benefiting the most vulnerable. 827 people’s lives have been positively impacted:

  • Kerosene use was eliminated
  • Daily hours of light available were doubled
  • Study hours for children increased by 50%
  • Money spent on lighting sources decreased by more than 80%
