SDG Changemakers
The Pacific Climate Change Science Program reports a yearly sea-level rise of 7-10 mm in the Pacific region. This exposes Pacific Island nations to elevated risks such as rising sea levels, intensified extreme weather events, ocean acidification, and threatening ecosystems, infrastructure, food security, and livelihoods.
Despite this vulnerability, only 15% of the Pacific Islands’ energy is from renewables. In this feasibility study, SDG Changemakers aims to expedite access to affordable, clean energy by collaborating with communities, UN departments, and micro-financing providers. The Energy Catalyst supported project looks at clean energy for food production and processing to find sustainable business models that help communities grow.
