Low cost high energy density anode for stationary energy storage

Stage: Round 3

This project assesses the feasibility of bulk synthesis of a low-cost high-energy density anode for sodium ion batteries (NIB). Recent neglect of NIB technology shifted focus to Li-ion systems, emphasizing essential materials developments necessary to ensure NIB is a commercially viable alternative to Li-ion batteries (LIB). Research at the UCL will include the synthesis of nanoparticle materials, which, once made into small rechargeable sodium-ion batteries, will be tested in SHARP UK labs. The project then scales up the most high-performing materials, validating them in larger cells for further assessment.
