ECOSMART:2
Stage: Round 8
ECOSMART:2 aims to demonstrate the integration of an advanced anaerobic digestion (AD) process with solar technology in Nigeria. Focused on valorising agri/food waste streams like cassava and water hyacinth, the project establishes a circular economy model for affordable, clean, and secure energy access. Leveraging local materials and low-cost components, ECOSMART:2 accelerates the AD process, producing soil amendments and fertilizers for sustainable agriculture. The 4.5-year payback model targets Nigeria’s £7.45Bn microgrid market, fostering enterprise, capacity building, operator training, local manufacturing, and global commercial opportunities for adapted AD and control systems. The project advocates for flexible energy use, affordability, and advancements in demand-side management and microgrid technology, enabling developing countries to bypass expensive centralized infrastructure.
