Stage: Round 10
Despite Malaysia’s considerable urban development and high electrification rates, roughly 200 villages in the remote Orang Asli communities in West Malaysia remain under-electrified. The initiative, a collaboration between Smart Villages Research Group (SVRG), Energy Action Partners (ENACT), and the Community Energy Toolkit (COMET) team, integrates COMET’s predictive capabilities with mobile mini-grids. The Community Energy Toolkit assesses demand, while the mobile mini-grid provides quick electrification, fostering demand for cost-effective Clustered Solar Home Systems (CSHSes). With Energy Catalysts’ support, this model bridges the gap between community engagement and permanent solutions, sustaining interest and gradually growing energy demand. Successful validation in Malaysia could pave the way for worldwide application, addressing global energy access needs and aligning with SDG targets.
