ePowerCart - Affordable Mobile Clean Energy for Remote Communities in Rural Sub-Saharan Africa and India
Partners: Power Roll
Country: India
Technology: Next generation solar technologies and business models
Stage: Mid
Stage: Round 10
Power Roll Ltd are developing an affordable, transportable pop-up, ready-to-use energy system, the ‘ePowerCart’. The ultra-low-cost, ultra-lightweight, photovoltaic (PV) thin-film based on micro-groove architecture bonds with flexible PV film to pop-up fabric trailer tents and combine this with remotely managed energy storage.
The project will design and build ePowerCart prototypes for field trials. Among them are a girls’ school in India and a mothers’ shelter in South Zambia.
This initiative will accelerate affordable, reliable, clean energy access for field trial participants and remote communities with similar climates and terrain. Power Roll, The Energy and Resources Institute, India and On Call Africa will work closely with rural communities and organisations in India and Zambia to ensure the solution considers end-user needs as well as the potential impacts on gender equality and social inclusion.
