Solaris Photonics

Development of Low Cost Alkaline Solar Cells

Stage: Round 4

Alkali thin film Photovoltaic (PV) technology, patented by Solaris Photonics as APVs, presents a breakthrough in overcoming limitations like heat generation and high production costs associated with traditional PV devices. With a potential efficiency range of 14-30%, this innovation aims to deliver lower-cost electricity generation. The project focuses on advancing the APV towards an optimized functional prototype, ensuring both high efficiency and long-term durability. Using thermal evaporation deposition initially and transitioning to an all-sputtering manufacturing process, the goal is to fabricate high-efficiency, low-cost pre-industrial prototype alkali PV cells. This technology holds the promise of competitive costs compared to conventionally generated electricity at the point of use.
