Free Running Buildings

Final Development of a Zero Energy Dehumidification and Cooling System

Stage: Round 4

Modern building cooling systems heavily rely on electricity, amplifying overall energy consumption. Growing middle class populations and persistent global warming anticipate a surge in air conditioning demand. Free Running Buildings (FRB) Ltd and the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) at the University of Sheffield collaborate to finalize FREECOOL’s manufacturing design. This zero-energy passive ventilation with active cooling reduces air temperature by 15°C and humidity without external power. The effort aims to complete the design of flat-packed modules for easy shipping and modular construction. Field trials will showcase FREECOOL’s ability to significantly decrease building energy consumption.
