Connecting conventional grids to rural and urban areas encounters challenges such as limited coverage, high costs, and unreliable supply. Solar energy can help fill the gap, but deterrents like intermittent supply and high costs exist.
The Decentralised Energy Market Access And Co-finance (DEMA2C) consortium will develop a technology that can supply on-demand green energy to off-grid communities. The technology hopes to achieve this by optimising the link between generation and consumption. It doesn’t require extra panels or expensive storage banks. It also doesn’t rely on fossil-fueled generators.
DEMA2C also seeks to provide an energy-as-a-service model. This model is backed by a unique payment platform that allows investors to track their return on investment in real-time. It is hoped that this will stimulate investment into distributed energy sources and attract investors who have been shying away from microgrids.
