Modular Energy Storage with Clean Hydrogen (MESCH)
Partners: International Lead Association
Country: Malaw+H56i
Technology: Low carbon hydrogen
Stage: Mid
Stage: Round 10
The Modular Energy Storage with Clean Hydrogen (MESCH) project aims to develop and deploy a novel battery and hydrogen production technology, known as a battolyser, within a modularised hybrid energy storage system. Over a 2-year period, partners will pilot MESCH at a Malawi hospital, addressing electricity, cooking, and educational needs. The initiative targets socially critical organisations like hospitals, schools, and businesses, with a long-term plan for deployment in other African and Asian regions. With a focus on reliability, affordability, and renewable energy, MESCH aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals SDG7 and SDG13, offering a low-cost solution to the energy challenges faced by over 800 million people, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.
