Sustainable Technology for Atmospheric Water Harvesting (WaterSustTech)
Stage: Round 8
This project aims to address water scarcity, impacting 1/3 of the global population, with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa, specifically Ethiopia and Sudan. The consortium will conduct a feasibility study on ‘WaterSustTech,’ an innovative Atmospheric Water Harvesting system. The technology utilizes phase change materials to collect drinking water from the air, leveraging night and daytime temperature differences. With approximately 74 million people lacking clean water and over 100 million lacking improved sanitation in both countries, this initiative seeks to provide a simple and effective solution for regions facing prolonged drought exacerbated by climate change. The UK team partners with local experts in Ethiopia and Sudan to ensure the project’s success.
